While a skirmish between the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and the French footballer Karim Benzema over the latter’s supposed links with the Muslim Brotherhood, the president of the National Rally was questioned on the subject by RMC this Friday October 20 in the morning. Marine Le Pen denounces “a contradiction in Gérald Darmanin» : «He criticizes Karim Benzema for being close to the Muslim Brotherhood but he never asked for a ban» of this movement. The president of the RN nevertheless estimated that the French footballer, exiled in Saudi Arabia to finish his football career with the Al-Ittihad club, had “clearly a complacency for the most radical Islamism».
A complaint approaching?
Monday evening on CNews, Gérald Darmanin accused the athlete of links with the Muslim Brotherhood, a radical Islamist organization born in Egypt, after he had posted a message on “all (his) prayers for the inhabitants of Gaza who are once again victims of these unjust bombings which spare neither women nor children.” Since then, the footballer’s lawyer has announced his intention to file a complaint against the minister and other personalities.

Thursday evening, on BFMTV, the minister indicated that he would retract on one condition: “If Mr. Benzema wants to show his good faith, which he is capable of showing in a few minutes in front of 20 million people who follow him (on Arras, Editor’s note), I will withdraw my remarks”declared the minister, for whom the international “tweets selectively.”
