Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, a strict-limited flagship coupe built for the Mythos series featuring a hand-built, non-hybrid 4.0-liter V8 engine delivering 646 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque, built in a worldwide run of just 30 units.
Engineering the Non-Hybrid V8 Powerplant
Under the composite hood sits a newly developed, hand-built V8 engine utilizing a flat-plane crankshaft.
Zero electrification touches this drivetrain. Power routes directly through the rear wheels, bypassing all front-axle differentials to shed critical kilograms. Torque output reaches 850 Nm, sustained across a broad operational band from 2,500 to 4,500 RPM. When hooked up to proper tarmac, the powertrain drives the chassis from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, eventually topping out at 310 km/h.
Chassis Architecture and Aerodynamic Overhaul
While the standard CLE replaces both the older C-Class and E-Class coupé variants in the broader Mercedes lineup, the Spezialanfertigung pushes mechanical limits toward track-day performance. AMG engineers widened the track considerably compared to standard production models. Extensive work went into chassis geometry, custom suspension tuning, and targeted weight reduction.
Exhaust gasses exit through a newly engineered titanium exhaust system developed in technical collaboration with Akrapovič. Visually, the exterior departs radically from standard road cars. The front fascia adopts an aggressive, enlarged grille paired with exposed carbon fiber air intakes. At the rear, the vehicle features one of the most prominent rear wings ever fitted to a production Mercedes model, generating downforce configured for high-speed stability.
Exclusivity and Market Availability
Production constraints dictate that the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung will remain an ultra-rare sighting. As the second vehicle designated under Mercedes’ exclusive Mythos series, manufacturing limits cap total global output at exactly 30 units. Pricing details remain undisclosed by the manufacturer, though the combination of hand-built V8 engineering, low-volume carbon-intensive bodywork, and limited-run status guarantees an exceptionally high acquisition cost for collectors.
