Microsoft Adds Tabs to File Explorer in Windows 11

Tech giant Microsoft has started testing tabs in File Explorer on Windows 11. An EarTrumpet app developer named Rafael Rivera discovered support for new hidden tabs inside the latest version of Windows 11 tests.

It seems that this feature is one of the secret additions that Microsoft began testing in the Windows 11 operating system recently. Adding tabs to File Explorer in Windows 11 allows you to open multiple folders in a single window. Microsoft first started testing tabs in Windows 10 apps under a feature called Groups.

This included support for tabs within File Explorer and the tabs in every Windows app, but Microsoft scrapped the project and never introduced it to Windows 10 users. However, Microsoft doesn’t seem to be fixing the File Explorer interface as part of this tab support. Where the file explorer has been in the operating system since Windows 95.

Microsoft has made some improvements to the File Explorer in Windows 11, but has not officially announced when it will be released to users. We are still waiting for the company to officially announce the launch of the File Explorer Tabs feature.
