The Microsoft Surface Studio at a glance
The Surface Pro tries to combine tablets and notebooks, with the emphasis on the tablet aspect. In principle, Microsoft wants to do the same thing again with the new Convertible Surface Laptop Studio, but with a focus on the notebook part: the display and keyboard are firmly connected so that the hardware has enough space.
Nevertheless, thanks to the double folding system, the Surface Studio feels more like a tablet than a classic convertible, where you always feel the keyboard when folded. In addition, the display can be positioned very freely thanks to the mechanism, and this is how touch operation on a notebook really makes sense. The device also offers pen operation.

But not only the design is convincing, the Microsoft Laptop Studio is also mostly convincing in the other points: The performance is top, the battery life is okay with a maximum of 13:39 hours. The processing is first class. In the test, however, we were bothered by the fact that Microsoft cut back on connections in the Laptop Studio. There are only two USB-C sockets in total – at least with DisplayPort function and Thunderbolt 4.
And the old Microsoft laptop? With the release of the Laptop Studio, this has become obsolete.
Our conclusion at the time of testing:
“The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio is by no means a bargain with its price of around 2,000 euros, but it was convincing in almost every respect in the test. The interaction of the i7 processor and the RTX 3050 Ti ensures very good performance, which makes the convertible the ideal Work and everyday companions. The 14.4” touch display is also pleasing with a high resolution and an optional refresh rate of 120 Hertz – but it could be more colorful. The device itself is impeccably finished and appears very stable.
