Minister Uriarte: Government awaits a new Convention with a “blank page”, parity, indigenous and independent seats

Between dialogues between the various political actors to give continuity to the constituent processthe new minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), Ana Lya Uriarteparticipated this Thursday in a live broadcast on social networks together with the government spokeswoman, Camila Vallejowhere highlighted the guidelines that, in La Moneda’s opinion, the next Constitutional Convention should have.

three days from having assumed as Secretary of State in replacement of Giorgio Jacksonthe socialist militant and former chief of staff of President Michelle Bachelet affirmed that “It is the political forces that are going to generate a political agreement to start this new process that, to the complete conviction of all those who are listening to us, has already begun and we are going to have a new constituent moment. We are all clear on that and we are participating, actively accompanying this process.”

Next, Uriarte pointed out that “as a government we have already issued an opinion several times, we have been clear and categorical about how we view this process. We understand that we are talking about a blank page, we began to write a new Constitution“.

He stressed that “there is another point that I think is installed socially, politically and culturally, which is the issue of parity: a parity that is expressed in that when we have the conventional group, half are men and half are women”.

“On the other hand, it is also installed – and it is important to emphasize it – that there must be a space, believes the Government, of reserved seats for our native peopleswhose proportion will be part of the debate that must be carried out now, in this instance of political meeting, but there must be a presence of native peoples,” said the head of the Segpres.

Finally, Uriarte said that, in La Moneda’s opinion, one should “look at the formula of how the voice of so many independent that exist in our country.

“This is an opinion that we have been holding since the beginning of time. We are not ‘negotiating’; it is the political forces that are achieving this agreement and as a government we will be accompanying it”emphasized the minister.
