When a girl was in danger of drowning in the East River in New York, New York, USA, nearby police officers responded quickly and saved her life.

According to ABC7 News on the 20th (local time), on the 17th, a passerby discovered a 19-year-old girl sitting over the riverside railing with an unhappy expression. It looked dangerous, as if you were not careful, you could fall into the river. A passerby who was concerned about this reported this to three police officers who were working near the Manhattan Bridge for the New York City Half Marathon. One officer approached the girl and tried to talk to her while the other officers called a port squad and an ambulance, but the girl refused to say anything and tried to throw herself into the river.

As the girl clung precariously to the railing, the police quickly ran towards her and grabbed her hands. Bodycam footage shows officers at the scene trying to save the girl, talking to her and grabbing her wrist as she tried to fall into the water.

Three police officers grabbed the girl’s hands, saying, “Give me your hands,” but the girl cried for a long time, saying, “Please leave me alone.” Still, the police did not give up and did not let go of her child’s hand, reassuring the girl with words such as “no” and “you are okay.” They held the girl for two to three minutes until the harbor squad, who responded to the scene in a boat, rescued her.

“I immediately got down on the ground and put my hand under the railing and grabbed her wrist as tightly as I could,” said Officer Jonathan Mazza, recalling the incident. Officer Maja, a former lifeguard, said he would have followed the girl into the water to save her if necessary. She said the officer “knew her girl was going through something” and “I was there to do everything we could to help her.”

Police reportedly found missed call records and concerning messages on the girl’s cell phone. According to police, the girl was taken to the hospital and she is currently doing well.
