The WHO has estimated that “the risk of the monkeypox virus establishing itself in non-endemic countries is real”.
As of June 9, 91 confirmed cases of Monkeypox have been reported in France: 64 in Ile-de-France, 10 in Occitania8 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 2 in Normandy, 2 in Hauts-de-France, 1 in Centre-Val de Loire, 1 in PACA, 1 in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and 2 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
No deaths so far
Of these infected people, Public Health France specifies that 85 of them were the subject of an epidemiological investigation. All the investigated cases are men, aged between 20 and 63 years with a median age of 35 years. Among them, 4 are immunocompromised, two were hospitalized but are no longer so; none died.

The National Public Health Agency adds that to date, “as in other European countries, these cases have occurred mainly, but not exclusively, in men who have sex with men (MSM), unrelated directly with people returning from endemic areas.
And to add that: “Among the cases investigated, 39 travelled, stayed or worked abroad before the onset of their symptoms, some of them in several different countries: 18 trips are thus reported in Spain, 6 in Belgium, 5 in Germany, 1 in Portugal, 1 in the United Kingdom, 1 in the Netherlands, 1 in Morocco, 1 in India, 2 in Switzerland, 1 in the United States, 2 in Mali and 1 in Colombia. systematically the origin of the contamination.”
