Six thousand and 800 liters of smuggled fuel (diesel and gasoline) were seized by the National Police in Lunda-Norte, during a micro-operation on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The border between Angola and DRC, starting from the province of LundaNorte, has been, in recent times, the main point for fuel smuggling, diamond trafficking and human beings, facts that have forced defense and security bodies to redouble surveillance and border security.
According to ANGOP, a 25-liter drum of gasoline, for example, is sold for 100 US dollars, the equivalent of 83 thousand and 280 kwanzas, according to the current exchange rate, against 8 thousand and 750 (Kz 350 per liter), official price.
The price per liter charged on the border with the DRC has motivated several agents to engage in smuggling, making the product scarce at supply stations.
According to the technician from the Institutional Communication and Press Office of the Provincial Command of the National Police, these and other facts required defense and security bodies to implement permanent micro-operations along the border and beyond, to counter smuggling. .
He said that the operation is also combating diamond mining hotspots in the municipalities of Cambulo, Lucapa, Chitato, Cuango, Capenda Camulemba and Xá-Miquelengue.
He made it known that last weekend 14 diamond stones of different carats, 73 kilograms of narcotics (liamba) were seized, for possession and illicit trafficking.
After the seizure, the fuel, diamonds and drugs were handed over to the General Tax Administration (AGT), the Operation Transparency Listing Commission, as trustees.
He added the detention of 674 foreign citizens from the DRC, for violating the border, who after administrative procedures were repatriated to their country of origin, through the border posts of Cuango, Cambulo, Caungula, Lóvua and Chitato.
