On August 23, an Embraer Legacy business jet en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg crashed near the village of Kuzhenkino in the Tver region. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – “Violation of the rules for traffic safety and operation of air transport.”

On board the crashed plane were 10 people, including the founder of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin, Wagner himself Dmitry Utkin and another key commander Valery Chekalov with the call sign Rover. All three have the title of Hero of Russia. On August 27, the Investigative Committee announced that the identification with the help of a DNA examination had been completed. The found remains correspond to the list of passengers, which was published by the Federal Air Transport Agency.
