Mourinho: I became a less selfish person after coaching Roma

Jose Mourinho, coach of Roma, said that spending a year with the team changed him as a man, saying: “I have become a less selfish person.”

Mourinho led Roma to win the European Conference League Cup in his first season with the team, after defeating Feyenoord of the Netherlands in the final on May 25.

Mourinho – who will turn 60 in January – said his priorities are changing, and the coach, dubbed “Special One”, maintains his desire to continue achieving success, but claims that he is now unconcerned about being at the top of coaches, which he was obsessed with before.

Mourinho told Portuguese reporters while at a college affiliated with the University of Lisbon that his first season with Roma gave him a new perspective.

When Roma won 1-0 in the final in Tirana, Mourinho celebrated by raising his five fingers, in reference to the five European titles he won, as he crowned with Porto the European Cup and Champions League titles, with Inter Milan in the Champions League, and with Manchester United in the European League and with Roma in the Conference League.

Mourinho said he celebrated in this way because he wanted it to be a remembrance of his accomplishments over the years.

He added: “The way I celebrated was for one reason, I’m not the man I was, I’m not the little guy who worries about his rise, his growth and that he has to prove on a daily basis what he was.”

He continued: “I have become a less selfish person, who lives for others more than he lives for himself, and is with a club that has no history of victories, and has a lot of passionate fans.”

“The European victory for Roma was like winning our Champions League,” he added.
