National Electronic Platform for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment: Free Services and Resources for All Age Groups

This comes within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Population to provide psychological support services, psychological counseling, and addiction treatment, in addition to educating citizens on how to obtain medical consultations for mental health care, through the electronic platform.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that according to the statistics of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, the number of electronic questionnaires that were completed by users reached 19,483 questionnaires, while the number of “virtual” therapeutic sessions that were provided to visitors to the platform reached 5,616. session.

For her part, Dr. Manen Abdel Maqsoud, Secretary-General of the Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, said that the percentage of female users reached 70% compared to 30% of males, adding that visitors to the platform included 20% of married people, compared to 80% of unmarried people.

“Manen” confirmed that the majority of age groups using the site ranged from 15 to 20 years, while the percentage of non-working users reached 64% compared to 36% of workers, adding that the site’s users were from all governorates, but most of them were from Cairo. She pointed out that the national electronic platform for mental health and addiction treatment aims to provide free mental health and addiction treatment services to all age groups, Egyptians and non-Egyptians residing in Egypt, explaining that the platform is the first of its kind in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

“Manen” pointed out that the electronic platform is one of the fruits of cooperation between the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, the National Information Center at the Ministry of Health and Population, the World Health Organization, and the University of British Columbia in Canada, and is supported by an elite group of technical and technical staff at the Ministry of Health and Population, and therapists. Psychologists and international experts in the field of psychiatry and addiction treatment.
