NNA – The Association of Certified Public Accountants held a scientific symposium on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day, where it launched an initiative to “institutionalize prevention of corruption and strengthen the role of the expert and auditor in fighting corruption.”

The head of the Association of Certified Public Accountants, Afif Sharara, said: “We must activate the prevention of corruption openly to get out of the corruption crisis that will not allow advancement unless it is dealt with with professionalism and elaborate knowledge. We were glad of what the army leadership has done and is doing by activating investment in science to prevent corruption, and announced Launching the union’s initiative to prevent corruption from the union’s headquarters, hoping for cooperation and solidarity between the two institutions to train cadres, confront corruption, activate internal control systems, and motivate members to actively contribute to straightening things out and increasing the level of integrity. in the Lebanese society.

The representative of the Army Commander, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Brigadier General Hassan Jouni, stressed that “soldierism and corruption do not meet naturally because soldiery is characterized by self-sacrifice for the sake of the homeland, i.e. preferring the national interest over personal interest, while corruption is characterized by preferring personal interest over the public interest.” Therefore, they are two completely contradictory concepts, and the corruption of concepts is more dangerous than the corruption of behavior because it spreads and promotes this culture, and these concepts must be reformed, and the corrupt exposed and exposed without any hesitation, as fighting corruption is an honorable task.

As for the Director of the American Institute for Combating Corruption in the Middle East and Africa, Professor Mike Massoud, he considered that the International Anti-Corruption Day “should be a day of reckoning and accountability for the previous year for all what they provided in the field of combating corruption,” referring to “the unforeseen cost of corruption, such as weak levels of citizenship.” As it is expressed through various types of migration, and this cost is considered more serious than the digital cost that can be measured.” The auditing profession may suffer from slackness, negligence and corruption. Massoud deplored “the Lebanese government’s failure to seek the assistance of the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Lebanon to carry out criminal accounting.”

Three scientific lectures were given by Dr. Lamia Moubayed on the importance of the Public Procurement Law as a model for institutionalizing the prevention of corruption, Dr. Fadia Kiwan on gender equality that serves the prevention of corruption, and the representative of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development John Blondel on the role of public administration and public budgets in this context.

In conclusion, a speech was delivered by the Association of “Qualified Anti-Corruption Managers” headed by the Advisor of the American Institute for Anti-Corruption, Captain Gina Al-Shammas, who played a role in bringing together the Army Foundation in the Syndicate and was the facilitator of the scientific training on combating corruption by the Institute, and she said that “the fight against corruption has found an incubating environment for it, as previously Corruption found its incubating environment.
