With goals from Peruvian Alex Callens, Uruguayan Santiago Rodríguez and Brazilians Talles Magno and Thiago, the MLS champion, New York City FC, thrashed Montreal 4-1 on Saturday, March 12, while Inter Miami lost 2 -0 with Los Angeles FC, in matches of the third date of the American place.
The New York team, now seventh in the Eastern Conference, was far superior to the Canadian eleven and started early 1-0 with a great goal from Callens in the 7th minute.
The champions went into the break 2-0 up after a goal from Santi Rodríguez, who scored with a lob from the edge of the box when he saw the Montreal goalkeeper ahead.
The Brazilians Magno and Thiago scored in the 64th and 83rd minutes, the first with a header after a cross from Andres Jasson and the second with a cannon shot from the right.
For the Canadian club, Haitian striker Zahary Bichotte Paul Guillard discounted to 52.
The club is already thinking about the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals where they hold a 3-1 lead.
