#Other countries : In Niger, a young woman recycles and transforms old tires and plastic waste into decorative items and home accessories. An initiative that contributes to the preservation of the environment.
“I chose used tires and plastic bags because among the waste, these are the ones that take longer to disappear in nature. This is a problem for our health and for the environment. That’s why I turn them into accessories,” she explains.
Armed with a hammer, a drill, a screwdriver, nails or glue, Lady Hassane’s daily life is 80% punctuated by concentration. She needs it to succeed in her works. But first, it must collect the components and process them. “For this job, I first collect the raw material from tire repair shops at a flat rate and often free of charge. After collection, I disinfect them before painting them. Then I insert the other elements such as the glass and the supports”, explains the artist and decorator.

If the works of Lady Hassane are sold to a very specific clientele, they are nevertheless aimed at people from all walks of life. She explains: “My clients are above all high personalities, who discover my articles through exhibitions and publications on social networks. Beyond the tables, I also make the bags and all kinds of furniture according to the customer’s request. I would like other people to be interested in my articles.”
Working alone in her studio, Lady Hassane dreams of transmitting her knowledge. And this vision is already written into its development plan: “My ambition in the future is to create a large company, in order to be able to hire young people. Because many people write to me to benefit from the training, but I cannot answer, since my workshop is not big enough and I work at home.
