North Korea fired eight short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea today, just one day after South Korea and the United States completed joint exercises using aircraft carriers.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said today that it had detected eight short-range ballistic missiles fired by North Korea into the East Sea from 9:08 a.m. to 9:43 a.m. in Pyongyang, from the Sunan area.

The origin of the missile launch is known from several places such as Sunan, but it seems to be aimed at the point that it is not easy to strike or intercept the origin if missiles are launched from several places at the same time.

Military authorities are analyzing specifications such as range and altitude.

North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile today is the third provocation since the inauguration of the Yun Seok-yeol administration and the 18th armed protest this year alone.

It has been 11 days since the launch of three missiles, an intercontinental ballistic missile and a short-range ballistic missile, on the 25th of last month.

In particular, the U.S. and South Korean naval forces held an armed demonstration one day after completing a joint exercise involving the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan near Okinawa, Japan.

Experts analyzed that there was also a reactionary nature to this training.

“The military is maintaining a fully prepared readiness posture while closely cooperating with South Korea and the United States while strengthening surveillance and vigilance in preparation for additional launches,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

The presidential office convened a standing committee of the National Security Council presided over by Kim Seong-han, head of the National Security Office, shortly after North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile.
