Not a military operation in Ukraine: Pope Francis

Vatican: Pope Francis has rejected Russia’s claim that Ukraine is a “special military operation.” The pope responded by saying that the conflict in Ukraine was not a military one but a war.

“Ukraine has been devastated by the war,” he said.

Rivers of tears and blood are flowing in Ukraine. It is not just a military operation, it is a war that sows death, destruction and other suffering, “said Pope Benedict XVI.

The pope’s response to the Ukraine-Russia issue came as he addressed a crowd in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday.

But Russia is not mentioned by the pope.

The pope called for a compromise on Ukraine and for humanitarian action.

“The need for humanitarian aid in that martyred country is increasing every hour. Common sense is needed here.

We need to go back to respecting international law. War is crazy. Please stop this, ”the pope added.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the Vatican welcomed the pope’s response.

“I am just happy to be free.
