The Musculoskeletal System is formed by the union of bones, joints and muscles, constituting the support, protection and movement element of the Human body. A skeletal muscle is made up of a set of muscle fibers, which shorten and lengthen voluntarily.

Before a group of fourth grade students who participated in the school visits program carried out by the Santa Paula Medical Group (GMSP), the manager of diagnostic areas of said institution, Dr. Tomás León, explained that the anatomy of the system Pediatric musculoskeletal system is unique and reflects the active growth and development that occurs during childhood, “hence the importance of nutrition in children, to achieve good progress in this body system.”

These school visits to the GMSP consist of making children aware of the functions performed by Doctors, Nurses, Bioanalysts, Radiologists, Technical and Administrative Personnel as vocational guidance.

During his talk, the specialist pointed out that “the Muscular System is the set of 650 muscles in the body, whose main function is to generate movement through contraction and relaxation.” They are what give the body strength and power, and they come in many different shapes and sizes, allowing them to work in different roles.

He added that, “muscle fibers are made of protein, so we must consume foods rich in protein and calcium, to have strong muscles and achieve optimal functioning.”

He pointed out that eating healthy provides children and adolescents with the basic nutrients for a correct evolution, especially for bones and muscles. Dr. León indicated that “nutrition is the most important thing, it is not just going to the pharmacy to buy vitamins that the child needs, but considering whether he can obtain them naturally by eating green vegetables. For example, there are always children who do not go to the bathroom and the problem could be solved if they eat cabbage, green beans, broccoli, and lettuce, which are a source of vitamins and irreplaceable fibers”.

Pediatric control

Dr. León highlighted that parents can make mistakes regarding the infant’s school performance, “if the child has less performance than the others, it may be due to a lack of vitamins, it will not always be due to attention deficit”, for this reason in the institution In the clinic, the importance of pediatric control medical attention, of the healthy child and also of the adolescent is promoted.

He added that “you cannot follow the same customs of your grandparents, of treating certain ailments with home remedies from other times.” He recommended that the essential thing for any pathology is a medical consultation, to avoid certain complications in the future, giving the child the opportunity to achieve good musculoskeletal growth, and with follow-up by their pediatrician.
