Vienna (OTS) – Even on Sunday, the travel columns came to a standstill again and again. According to ÖAMTC experts, accidents, defective vehicles, overload and construction sites led to traffic jams and long delays in Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Salzburg, Upper Austria and Styria.

Due to the closure of the Arlberg tunnel due to the construction site, motorists on the Arlbergstraße (B197) from St. Anton to the pass were slow at times. In Tyrol, the entire Fernpass route (B179) from Füssen to Nassereith in both directions, the Zillertalstraße (B169) towards the Inntal Autobahn (A12) and the Seefelder Straße (B177) from Seefeld to Zirl were temporarily overloaded. On the Pass Thurn road (B161), the columns between Kitzbühel and Aurach were stuck in traffic in both directions at midday due to an event-related closure. On the Loferer Straße (B178), a construction site near Scheffau led to longer delays.

In Salzburg, after a motorcycle accident on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) between Kuchl and Hallein in the morning, there was a southbound road closure and kilometers of traffic jams, which returned to the West Autobahn (A1) in the afternoon. The injured Czech biker was flown to UKH Salzburg with the ÖAMTC emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 6. Due to a defective bus, the Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) in Upper Austria near St. Pankraz had to be closed in a southerly direction, resulting in kilometer-long traffic jams. The construction site on the A9 in the Styrian section near Deutschfreistritz also repeatedly tested the patience of drivers.

Before the borders to Bavaria, checks on departure sometimes led to longer waiting times. In front of the Karawanken Tunnel (A11) we had to wait more than an hour in both directions.

Sunday has not yet replaced Saturday as a travel day, but is becoming more and more “demanded”, the ÖAMTC experts finally report.
