Olympia 2022: Cross-country skier Remi Lindholm complains of a frozen penis – “unbearable pain”

The Winter Games were cold. Very cold.

In particular, the competitions in Zhangjiakou, near the Gobi desert, caused a sensation with record temperatures. In order not to endanger the athletes, some competitions even had to be postponed.
Athlete breakdowns, like that Norwegian biathlete Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold or the Swiss Irene Cadurischleft a lasting impression on TV viewers, although the two got off lightly compared to Finland’s Remi Lindholm.

The 24-year-old cross-country skier told the Finnish press after the ski marathon that his penis had frozen because of the freezing temperatures.

Lindholm for the second time with a frostbite

“You can imagine what was frozen when I crossed the finish line,” Lindholm told Iltalehti.

Curiously, Lindholm is already familiar with this unusual injury: the 24-year-old had the same “trick” at the World Cup in Ruka (Finland) last November.

However, the recent “frostbite” seems to have affected the Olympic debutant more. “It’s unbearable pain,” Lindholm described his condition.

Youngsters are no longer an option for Lindholm

After the competition, in which the 24-year-old finished 28th, he tried hard to warm up his best piece, as the Finn continued: “I held a heating pad to my testicles.”

The innovative approach always helped, after 15 minutes the process was completed in a target-oriented manner.

Nevertheless, the young cross-country skier expects permanent damage: When asked if he thinks he can father children, Lindholm replied dryly: “No, I don’t think so.”

Tips from our own team could have helped

His teammate Ristomatti Hakola could have given him tips against frostbite again. The 30-year-old always wears special underwear during competitions to keep his most vulnerable areas warm.

“It’s a bit too late for that now,” Lindholm admitted after the final cross-country competition, grudgingly: “Ristomatti flew home on Friday.”

Due to the cold temperatures, the traditional cross-country men’s final race was shortened from 50 to 28.4 km. “It’s a shame we didn’t manage that traditional finish well,” said Lindholm. Gold ging an den Russen Aleksandr Bolshunov.

Lindholm, on the other hand, left Beijing without a medal. However, the 24-year-old will remember the competitions longer – hardly any other Olympic participant will be able to report a more curious injury.
