One UI 9 brings a sweeping update to Samsung Galaxy devices, introducing granular customization to the Quick Settings panel, real-time network speed monitoring in the status bar, and AI-driven features like My FanCam and AI Network Guard, Android Authority reported.
One UI 9 Restructures Quick Settings Layout
The Quick Settings panel undergoes a fundamental layout restructuring in the One UI 9 update. Dark mode and sound mode toggles finally break free from the confines of the brightness and volume sliders. Users can now reposition these toggles freely across the grid.
The brightness and volume sliders themselves gain scaling flexibility, allowing them to shrink down to a compact 2×1 tile or snap into a vertical alignment. Meanwhile, the media player tile becomes fully resizable. Users can scale it up for detailed album art inspection or scale it down into a minimal interface element.
For status bar telemetry, One UI 9 introduces a real-time internet speed indicator. However, this option remains excluded from core system menus. Enabling it requires going through the Good Lock customization suite, opening the QuickStar module, entering the Visibility of Indicator Icons submenu, and toggling the network speed switch.
AI Network Guard Restricts Application Internet Access
Device security and connectivity management expand via AI Network Guard. Designed primarily to restrict internet access for specific applications, the feature sits inside the Connectivity Labs menu. Accessing this hidden diagnostic area requires going to Connections, opening Wi-Fi settings, selecting the three-dot menu, choosing Intelligent Wi-Fi, and tapping that option seven times to unlock Connectivity Labs. A PIN protects the configuration, which also features a scheduled Downtime mode to block data access during specified hours.
Accessibility improvements arrive by removing the default swipe requirement for high-priority alerts. Answering incoming calls, dismissing alarms, and clearing alerts can now be remapped from a swipe gesture to a single tap. This option lives within the interaction and dexterity accessibility settings.
My FanCam Tracks Subjects in Recorded Video
Multimedia editing on Galaxy hardware gains a targeted subject-tracking tool named My FanCam. Accessed through the Samsung Gallery app’s Galaxy AI menu when viewing recorded video, the tool detects all visible faces within a clip. Users select an individual subject, choose a target aspect ratio, and let the on-device processing reframe the video dynamically to keep that person centered and tracked. The algorithm performs this reframing without generating artificial pixel content.
The Now Brief dashboard evolves to support user-generated cards. Rather than relying entirely on preset layouts, users construct custom data tiles dedicated to weather, health, or video feeds. Preview options verify layout appearances before deployment.
Driving Report Utility Logs Vehicle Transit Metrics
Sensor integration expands to vehicular transit with the new Driving Report utility. Initiated automatically upon Bluetooth pairing with a vehicle, the software logs traveled routes, accumulated distance, duration metrics, and average speeds. Sensors record harsh acceleration events, sharp steering inputs, and mobile device interaction during operation. Summaries dispatch via notification upon trip completion.
Motion sickness mitigation arrives via Android 17’s Motion Assist integration, ported directly into the interface. When enabled, dynamic floating shapes project along the periphery of the display, synchronizing movement with the vehicle to provide visual stabilization cues. The shortcut maps directly into the Quick Settings tiles.
Diagnostics and Warranty Management
System maintenance receives a centralized portal inside the main Settings application under the Warranty and care heading. The menu exposes hardware warranty status, active coverage scopes, and direct pathways for self-service diagnostics. Users can initiate automated hardware checks, prompt Bixby for troubleshooting assistance, or launch a remote management session where a Samsung tech consultant accesses the device interface remotely. The screen also aggregates frequently asked questions and permits direct repair scheduling at a Samsung store.
