PS5 to Launch Dedicated Crunchyroll Anime Hub in Spring 2027

PlayStation 5 Home Screen Integration Brings Crunchyroll Anime Hub in Spring 2027

PlayStation will launch a dedicated Crunchyroll anime hub directly within the PlayStation 5 home screen in spring 2027, deepening the integration between Sony’s gaming hardware and its anime streaming ecosystem. The new destination aims to bridge deeply engaged and overlapping fan communities by giving players a unified place to discover anime and anime-inspired games alongside the full Crunchyroll app.

Hideaki Nishino and Rahul Purini Outline the Sony Integration Strategy

PlayStation president and CEO Hideaki Nishino announced the upcoming feature on Wednesday at the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum. The announcement coincided with Sony’s unveiling of its new Crunchyroll Storyworks division. Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll, emphasized the strategic alignment during the event. From Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation, to the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series, today, we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation, Purini stated, adding that serving fans means meeting them where they already are.

Expanding Video and Streaming Offerings on the PlayStation 5 Ecosystem

Crunchyroll has remained accessible on the PlayStation 5 via a standalone application since the console launched in 2020. However, the upcoming spring 2027 rollout shifts the platform from a standard app icon to an integral part of the home-screen experience. This integration follows closely behind the August debut of “Live TV on PS5,” a free ad-supported streaming television service offering more than 100 channels on the console. Sony Pictures Television plans to scale that FAST channel offering globally in the coming months.
