The Council of Ministers approved a draft law amending some provisions of Law No. 127 of 1955 regarding the practice of the profession of pharmacy, which included intensifying the penalties prescribed to tighten control over this sector..

The amendment stipulates that a penalty of imprisonment for a period of no less than one year and a fine of no less than two hundred thousand pounds and not exceeding one million pounds, or one of these two penalties, shall be imposed on anyone who practices the profession of pharmacy without a license, or obtains a license to open a pharmacy institution by fraud, or by borrowing The name of a pharmacist, and every pharmacist lent his name to achieve one of the advanced purposes.

The amendment also stipulates that anyone who opens, establishes or manages a pharmacy without a license shall be punished with imprisonment for a period of no less than two years and a fine of no less than one million pounds and not more than two million pounds. Another in a pharmacy establishment that is not licensed to manage it, as determined by a decision of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Medicines Authority.

The amendment also included tightening the penalties prescribed in other cases, including anyone who brings or produces, with the intention of trading or selling, any of the medicines, medical or biological preparations, medical supplies, or cosmetics that have not been issued a decision by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Medicines Authority. by using or circulating.

The draft also introduced a provision allowing the confiscation of medicines, medical or biological preparations, medical supplies, or cosmetics, the subject of the violation, and the tools with which they were committed when violating the provisions of the articles of the law.

The amendment provided for granting the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Medicines Authority – by a reasoned decision from him – the authority to close the pharmaceutical institution, in several specific cases.
