Online petition is to save the popular bathing spot “Sauzipf” in Zwettl

The “Kulturplatzl Sauzipf” at the confluence of the Rodl and the Distl has been a popular bathing spot for 22 years. Every summer, residents dammed up the water with a few boards on a voluntary basis, enabling children and young people in particular to cool down with a bathing and playground by the water. Now that the authorities became aware of the place, the community tried to get approval for the small leisure paradise.

You don’t want to just accept that in Zwettl. SP boss Herbert Enzenhofer started an online petition. “During a local inspection, both experts and those authorized to fish spoke out against the 30 centimeter high dam and thus against the possibility of using small rafts and boats on the toboggan in this area,” criticizes Enzenhofer.

“Unfortunately, during the oral hearing, the municipality’s original application was partially withdrawn, and so only the floating island (raft) was negotiated,” says the SP chairman and asks the question: “But what use are rafts if the water is too low? If the small dam, which is only built in summer, is really such a problem, both for flood protection and for fisheries, it should have been noticed at least once in 20 years.”

He does not want to accept that a small damming should be a problem: “Upstream and below there are much larger and higher dams and these all year round – but these do not represent an obstacle for the fish, as experts and fishermen assured us.”

That’s why he advertises on the online platform www.petitionen.com for support. He wants to start the whole process over again.
