The ORF has appointed Tyrol’s regional director Esther Mitterstieler with the academic degree “Dr.” on his homepage and in several mailings.
Blogger Markus Wilhelm has criticized this and accused Mitterstieler of a criminal misappropriation of the title. Because her studies at the University of Bologna in Italy should not have included a doctorate. The ORF then changed her academic degree on the website to “Dott.ssa”. The public media company told the “Kurier” that it was a “misunderstanding”. Mitterstalker regrets the incident. She had completed her studies lawfully and internally, months ago, when she became aware of the misleading description, she had corrected her areas of responsibility.
