The US Aeronautics and Space Administration (USA) announcedNASAOn Tuesday, it extended the mission of its Osiris-Rex probe for nine years, so that it could reach a new destination.
It is noteworthy that the spacecraft “OSIRIS-REx” is currently on its way to Earth to deliver samples from the asteroid Bennu, which it collected in 2020.
The renamed Osiris-Apex Explorer (Osiris-Apex) will face Apophis, an asteroid with a diameter of about 370 meters, 32,000 km from Earth, in 2029.
In a statement, NASA said: “Osiris – Apex” will enter orbit around Apophis shortly after the asteroid’s flyby near Earth, providing an unprecedented close-up view of this asteroid.
