Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath concert film set for December release

Ozzy Osbourne’s final bow is heading to physical and digital shelves this holiday season. Ozzy Osbourne & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning, documenting the landmark July 5, 2025, concert at Birmingham, Villa Park, releases on Dec. 11 via Republic on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, CD, vinyl, and digital formats. Pre-orders are live now.

From Birmingham to the Box Set

The concert took place just 17 days before Osbourne died of a heart attack at age 76. It marked the final live performances of both Osbourne and Black Sabbath. The event also featured the first time original members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward played together in more than 20 years. The sold-out show drew more than three million ticket requests for 44,000 available seats.

The star-studded bill gathered heavy metal staples including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Anthrax, Gojira, and Mastodon. Jason Momoa hosted the day, while Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello oversaw the musical direction. Guest appearances included Jack Black singing “Mr. Crowley” and Fred Durst performing “Changes.”

Formats, Collections, and Charitable Impact

The three-and-a-half-hour film is presented in Dolby Atmos, Dolby 2.1, and 5.1 sound. Physical editions include a two-disc Blu-ray/CD set and a two-LP vinyl release, alongside limited-edition colored vinyl variants available through artist stores and specialty retailers. A digital live soundtrack featuring the Sabbath and Osbourne sets will come out on December 11.

For dedicated collectors, a deluxe boxed set arrives on April 23. This expanded package features three Blu-rays, two CDs, three heavyweight vinyl LPs, a 72-page hardcover book of interviews and photographs, an Osbourne pendant necklace, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and a film poster art print. Its bonus disc contains all 35 Osbourne and Black Sabbath songs performed during the event.

The not-for-profit event was live-streamed by more than five million people globally. The concert raised an estimated combined total of £6 million to £7 million for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Acorns Children’s Hospice, and Cure Parkinson’s.

Closing Chapters

“Back to the Beginning was a once-in-a-lifetime event that will go down in music history,” Sharon Osbourne said, noting that she oversaw the concert and executive-produced the film. “Ozzy suffered from chronic pain during the final six years of his life. His only wish was to perform one last time to thank his fans and say goodbye.”

The release follows other recent retrospectives. Earlier this month, Osbourne was honored with the Tania Alexander-directed Paramount+ documentary OZZY: NO ESCAPE FROM NOW, which chronicled his final years, alongside the publication of his second memoir, Last Rites.
