Marco Schwarz moved up from fifth place with the best time in the second run. “It’s unbelievable,” said the 27-year-old after his first triumph in giant slalom: “It was a big fight, especially in the second round. I made a small mistake in the flat section, but I tried to attack and I’m happy about it Victory.”
Schwarz’s triumph in the USA was the first Austrian victory in giant slalom since Marcel Hirscher retired in 2019.
The other five German starters Julian Rauchfuss (35th), Stefan Luitz (40th), Linus Straßer, Anton Grammel (both 45th) and Fabian Gratz (retired) did not make it into the top 30 and thus did not make it into the second round.
