PATA and Azerbaijan Tourism Board Sign MOU to Boost Asia-Pacific Tourism

The Pacific Asia Travel Association and the Azerbaijan Tourism Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Baku on October 29, 2026, to strengthen tourism connections, develop source market opportunities, and encourage travel exchange between Azerbaijan and the Asia Pacific region.

The agreement was formalized during the PATA Hosted Buyers Baku 2026 Summit. The event operated under the theme “Pacific Asia Meets Azerbaijan: From Source Market to Destination.” PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid and Azerbaijan Tourism Board CEO Florian Sengstschmid signed the document. PATA Chairman Henry Oh and Fuad Naghiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, witnessed the signing.

Framework for Regional Cooperation

The partnership combines destination promotion efforts from the Azerbaijan Tourism Board with PATA’s regional network, industry expertise, and communication channels. Both organizations intend to connect Azerbaijan with travel trade partners, media representatives, and tourism stakeholders across selected Asia Pacific markets.

Henry Oh stated that the summit’s theme reflects a clear business objective. According to his remarks in the announcement, the initiative connects Azerbaijan with key source markets and helps turn tourism potential into tangible business opportunities.

Noor Ahmad Hamid noted that the collaboration provides a platform to build awareness, share market insights, and connect the destination with travel professionals who understand regional traveler expectations.

Expanding Market Reach and Infrastructure

Fuad Naghiyev noted that the Asia Pacific region offers significant potential for attracting visitors and expanding international cooperation. He pointed to the opening of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board’s representative office in Beijing earlier in 2026 as an important milestone for regional presence.

Florian Sengstschmid stated that arrivals from Pacific Asia continue to grow. This growth is supported by visa-free travel arrangements with China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

  • Travel Trade Engagement and Business Development
  • Media Engagement and Destination Awareness
  • Knowledge Sharing and Industry Engagement

The agreement builds directly upon the “Pacific Asia Meets Azerbaijan” initiative. Prior to the summit, PATA and the Azerbaijan Tourism Board hosted travel trade buyers and media representatives from China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Republic of Korea on a familiarisation trip to Azerbaijan.

The program culminated in the Baku 2026 Summit, bringing international buyers together with local tourism suppliers to establish direct industry connections.
