Polestar 4 adds rear window and 630km range in update

Polestar has reintroduced a physical rear window to its updated Polestar 4 SUV to win back traditional drivers, reversing an initial design choice that relied entirely on a digital camera feed. Engineers originally removed the glass to extend the panoramic sunroof, but the update adds a taller roof, squared-off tail, and proper rear visibility.

Market Pressures and Pricing Structure

The revised Polestar 4 enters the market with specific pricing and powertrain configurations designed to appeal to buyers hesitant about minimalist compromises. The entry-level Long Range Single Motor starts at approximately $81,000 drive-away, producing 200kW and 343Nm from a 100kWh battery with a claimed range of 630km. Meanwhile, the Long Range Dual Motor climbs to $91,000 drive-away, doubling output to 400kW and 686Nm while dropping range slightly to 600km.

Powertrain Model Output (kW / Nm) Battery Capacity Claimed Range Drive-Away Price
Long Range Single Motor 200kW / 343Nm 100kWh Up to 630km ~$81,000
Long Range Dual Motor 400kW / 686Nm 100kWh Up to 600km ~$91,000
Performance Pack (Dual Motor) 400kW / 686Nm 100kWh 520km ~$91,000 + Pack

Cabin Layout and Digital Interface Integration

Inside the cabin, the vehicle retains sustainable materials and a minimalist buttonless layout running on Android Automotive with built-in Google services, including Gemini as the virtual assistant. Google Maps provides charging station data and range estimations.

Suspension Retune and Vehicle-to-Load Capability

The updated model features a substantial suspension retune to improve ride comfort and body control over the previous coupé configuration. Selectable drive modes allow drivers to adjust suspension firmness. Additionally, the inclusion of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology transforms the car into a mobile generator capable of powering campsite equipment. During testing, running camp setups overnight consumed only six per cent of the battery while leaving approximately 420km of remaining range.
