PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Undergo Surgery After ACL Rupture

Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Georgian international’s absence is a major blow as Luis Enrique’s side pursue a third straight Champions League crown.

PSG have not put a timeline on his return to action, though the French club stated he will have an operation in the coming days. The injury leaves his availability uncertain as the team sits at the top of the Champions League table with three wins from three matches.

Kvaratskhelia Substituted After Knee Injury in 59th Minute

The injury occurred in the 59th minute at the Parc des Princes during a challenge with Xavi Espart. Kvaratskhelia landed awkwardly after sprinting back to make a tackle, clutched his right knee, and was unable to put weight on his right leg as he was substituted.

At the time of the substitution, PSG and Barcelona were level at 2-2 before the hosts scored twice late in the match to maintain their winning start to their title defense. Kvaratskhelia has featured 11 times for PSG this season and recently helped the club win back-to-back Champions League titles following his January 2025 transfer from Napoli.

Wider Defensive and Squad Impact

PSG’s victory over Barcelona came at a heavy cost to the squad. The club confirmed that Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos will also be absent for a few weeks due to thigh injuries. Dembele limped off with a left thigh issue while Marquinhos sustained a right thigh injury.

Nuno Mendes missed the Barcelona fixture following an injury sustained in PSG's Ligue 1 win at Strasbourg. While Luis Enrique manages these mounting squad absences, it remains unknown how long Kvaratskhelia’s recovery will ultimately take and whether he will feature again this campaign.
