Putin made the observation while traveling along the strategic Kerch Bridge, which connects the Crimean peninsula with Russia, along with Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khunsil. On October 8, the bridge collapsed in a violent explosion. The 19 km long bridge was opened in 2018 for traffic to Crimea, which Russia seized from Ukraine in 2014. It is the longest bridge in Europe.
