According to data submitted by KORAIL (Korea Railroad Corporation) to Rep. Seo Beom-soo of the People Power Party, a member of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee of the National Assembly, on the 17th, the railroad union has been slowing down work for a total of 170 days, more than once a year for four years from August 2019 to August this year. . In 2019, there were 55 days (3 times), in 2020, there were 16 days (1 time), and in 2021, there were 72 days (2 times), the most. Last year, it was surveyed on the 19th (three times), and this year, it was surveyed on the 8th (once) until last month. This means that out of the 1,491 days covered, there was a shutdown once every 8.7 days.

Over the past four years, a total of 1,038 trains failed to arrive on time due to work slowdowns, and the average delay time per train was 44 minutes. Considering that there are hundreds of passengers on each train, train users lose hundreds of thousands of hours due to the railroad union’s habitual sabotage.

Rep. Seo Beom-soo said, “The railroad union’s sabotage and political strikes without cause and purpose are causing great damage to the people’s precious time and property.” “We will make every effort possible,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the fourth day of the general strike, the national train operation rate was 80.1%, a slight increase from the previous day (70.8%). However, on major KTX routes such as Seoul-Busan and Seoul-Gwangju Songjeong, most of the train tickets were sold out, causing great inconvenience to citizens who were unable to obtain tickets. The railroad union held a rally in downtown Seoul on the 16th and announced that it would prepare for a second general strike if the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and KORAIL did not meet its demands, including the operation of the KTX to Suseo.
