Around 20 days before the actual start of the Midterms, there is already good news from Georgia in terms of voter turnout.

Atlanta – At the Midterms in the US the first record has already been broken. In Georgia, more voters participated in early voting than ever before in such elections in the USA in state history. At 131,000, almost twice as many ballots were cast as at the same time in the midterms in 2018. According to the British BBC, early voting turnout was almost as high as in the 2020 presidential election.

This data on the US elections was released Tuesday night by state election officials. Accordingly, the number of votes cast rose by 85 percent compared to the previous year. In addition, around 12,000 voters have already taken part in postal voting. The total number of votes already cast was 143,000 and thus even higher than in the 2020 presidential election. At that time, 136,739 people had already cast their votes.

Elections in the USA: Record turnout in Georgia – tight race indicated

The state of Georgia has a particularly important role to play in this year’s US elections. Several close and decisive races are fought there. In addition to the elections to the House of Representatives, the governor and the representative for the US Senate are also being elected in Georgia.

There the republican Herschel Walker and Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock against each other. Their duel is considered one of the most watched in the country. Walker is a close confidante Donald Trumps. Should his nominee actually be able to beat the very popular incumbent Warnock, it would be a clear sign that Trump’s support can still bring Republicans victories.

Elections in the USA: Four states decide on majorities

In the current Surveys on the midterms in the USA a very close race is emerging, especially in Georgia. The lead that Raphael Warnock had over Herschel Walker is shrinking rapidly. Also the Scandal um Herschel Walkerwho urged his loved ones to have an abortion and paid for it, even though he opposes abortion rights, could do little harm to the Republican.

But the apparently high turnout should be the hope of the democrats revive. Traditionally, the party of the incumbent US President benefits Joe Biden of high participation more than the Republicans. In addition to Georgia, the outcome in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Ohio in particular should decide on the majority in the US elections – and thus on the possibility of Biden being able to enforce any decisions in the next two years of his term of office.
