Elevated levels of cholesterol in the body can lead to serious health problems, including an increased risk of stroke. You can reduce its excess not only by adjusting your lifestyle and diet, but also by using some natural products.

Cholesterol is a fat-like substance necessary for normal cell function, digestion and hormone synthesis. However, excess cholesterol in the body increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, including stroke.

Doctors divide cholesterol into two types – “good” and “bad”. “Bad” cholesterol, known as LDL (low-density lipoprotein), makes up the majority of cholesterol in the body. Excess of this cholesterol can settle on the walls of blood vessels, forming “plaques” and increasing the risk of heart problems. Causes of high levels of bad cholesterol include eating fatty foods, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, drinking alcohol and genetic predisposition.

On the other hand, “good” cholesterol, known as HDL (high-density lipoprotein), absorbs “bad” cholesterol and helps eliminate it from the body. High HDL levels reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

There are recommendations for reducing bad cholesterol levels, including giving up bad habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol. It is also recommended to add physical activity to your daily routine and limit the consumption of fatty foods, sausages and fast carbohydrates.

Research by Japanese doctor Masahiro Iwasaki has shown that regular consumption of red pepper, which contains the substance capsanthin, can help lower blood cholesterol and help prevent cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and obesity, RIA Novosti reported.

Capsanthin is one of the most powerful antioxidants; it allows you to increase the level of “good” cholesterol in the human body and prevent the excess of “bad” cholesterol.
