“Virgin of Carmen, give me life, give me health, I’ll do the rest.” “Oh! Virgen del Carmen, give me a license, ma’am, give me a license, ”El Cacique said in his songs, but his health and license ran out, and the church was not built.
The story was corroborated by Joaquín Guillén, who was his manager and great friend, stated that the religious procedures were fulfilled, the Diocese of Valledupar approved it, but “the Cacique surrounded himself with people, women, who instead of helping him, pushed him away of his good intentions and left in the background the promise that today could be leaving the consequences ”.
Given that Diomedes did not materialize the project, the Diocese of Valledupar built the church in the Don Carmelo neighborhood, on land that the Morelia brothers donated to the Cacique de La Junta.
Even, Guillén narrated, he was aware of the campaigns that were intended to develop to achieve this work, which more than a dream was a promise that Diomedes had made to his little virgin, to his protector.
“The campaign consisted of each fan donating five bricks, it was a beautiful work that was intended to be accomplished and we were sure it would be achieved, but Diomedes focused on other things until death surprised him,” he said about this church that the Cacique did not could finish.
