Retired and Restless: Finding Solutions for Sleep Troubles in Retirement

2024-04-29 01:54:33

Working while looking after my three children and having an active social life with my husband, I was so tired in the evening that I fell asleep with my head on the pillow. Which didn’t stop me from often feeling tired and needing to rest on weekends. But I slept well.

So I dreamed of retiring to sleep as I pleased. Now that my husband and I have been retired for a year, sleep seems to have left me. Not the need for sleep, but the ability to fall asleep.

I toss and turn in my bed unable to fall asleep, while my husband always falls asleep just as well. It’s frustrating, you can’t figure out how. Especially since even if I sleep for a few hours, I wake up just as tired as the day before. I dare not consult at such short notice, but I would need advice before resigning myself to taking sleeping pills which, I am told, may be habit-forming.

You have no choice but to consult because sleep is too important to someone’s state of health and their personal balance. There is a reason for your fatigue and you need to find it. Whether it is a matter of stress to eliminate or another problem to identify, such as sleep apnea for example.
