President Emmanuel Macron decreed the popular reform and aroused enormous discontent among the population that has been demonstrating against the reform since the beginning of 2023.
This Thursday, the French president Emmanuel Macron approved by decree the pension reform after the negative vote by Parliament. The measure promulgated by the Head of Government received massive popular rejection.
Following the President’s decision, The protesters, who for months have been speaking out against the measure that will change the retirement age from 62 to 64 years from 2030, took to the streets once again to protest against the reform and the police intervened.
The security forces arrived at night at the Place de la Concorde, in the heart of Paris, to disperse thousands of protesters. The agents used water cannons to combat attempted damage to ancient Egyptian Obelisk works which is located in the center of the square.
French unions evaluate relaunching strikes in sectors where measures of force have already taken placesuch as energy and transport.
According to previous surveys, two out of three Frenchmen were against the pro-government initiative.
