Risk of severe thunderstorms: several sectors to watch today

A low pressure system will ignite the powder. By sweeping Quebec its two fronts (hot, in front of the depression, and cold, behind it) risk creating uplift.

As humidity and heat are present in large quantities, there is plenty of energy available for a large portion of the territory. The formation of cells will therefore be encouraged, and the latter could be quite strong.

Certain sectors of western Quebec, such as the Outaouais and the Laurentians, are likely to be the most affected by violent storms. Lanaudière could also be added to the list. A risk of rotation is also to be considered.

For now, severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Témiscouata and Abitibi, and many other sectors are on hold.

In general, the potential is very present in the St. Lawrence Valley, including the cities of Montreal and Quebec.

Violent gusts, torrential rains and large hailstones are possible during the day. The heat remains very present: temperatures will reach 30°C in the afternoon, to approach 40 with the humidity factor in the southern Quebec sector.

Good news: the passage of this disturbance will drive out the oppressive humidity. Temperatures felt closer to 30 are to be expected for the start of the week.
