Rosinka prioritizes reading to support literacy and academic achievement

Reading has become a central priority at Rosinka this year, with Nord Anglia Education reporting that strengthening literacy skills supports wider academic achievement, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Prioritizing Literacy in a Crowded Digital Environment

Children who enjoy reading tend to achieve better reading outcomes, according to evidence cited by Nord Anglia Education. Yet reading for pleasure has declined significantly over the past decade. Research from the National Literacy Trust in 2026 revealed that only about one-third of children and young people surveyed enjoyed reading in their free time.

Books now compete directly with social media, YouTube, streaming services, phones, tablets, gaming, and other forms of instant entertainment. Because of this crowded environment, developing a habit of reading cannot be left to chance.

Campus Strategies and Family Involvement

To combat this decline, the reading drive at Rosinka aims to make books visible and actively discussed across the entire campus. Students are encouraged to recommend books to friends, discover new authors and genres, listen to adults read aloud, and become more adventurous in their personal reading choices.

Families also play an important role in this initiative. Reading together, discussing books, setting aside dedicated time for reading, and helping children find material they genuinely enjoy can make a measurable difference.
