IIn the statement from the Russian Investigative Committee, neither the name of American President Joe Biden nor the terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall near Moscow, in which at least 144 people were killed on March 22, are directly mentioned. But the aim is obviously to establish a connection between the two: the committee announced that it had opened criminal proceedings against “highest US officials and NATO member states” for financing terrorist attacks in Russia. The committee is keeping it open exactly what this means, but the reference to Joe Biden is clear.
The money for the attacks “with the aim of eliminating political and public figures and causing economic damage” is said to have flowed through the Ukrainian Burisma Holding, according to the statement published on Tuesday evening. This company is at the center of efforts by former US President Donald Trump and the Republicans to prove corruption and impeach Biden and his family. And it also played a central role in the affair over which the US Democrats initiated impeachment proceedings against President Trump in autumn 2019.
