The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the armed forces of Ukraine over the past day made massive attempts to break through the defenses north and south of Bakhmut (Artemovsk), but these attacks were repulsed.
“North and south of Artemovsk, over the past day, the enemy has made massive attempts to break through the defenses of our troops. All attacks by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are reflected. Breakthroughs in the defense of the Russian troops were not allowed, ”said Igor Konashenkov, official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry (quoted from TASS).
The battles for the western quarters of the city are being carried out by assault detachments with the support of units of the Airborne Forces, a representative of the Ministry of Defense indicated. “Repelling enemy attacks, courage and heroism were shown by the servicemen of the units of the 4th, 200th motorized rifle brigades and the 6th motorized rifle division of the Russian armed forces,” said Mr. Konashenkov.
Fighting for Bakhmut (Artemivsk), located in the part of the Donetsk region controlled by Kyiv, has been ongoing since the summer of 2022. In February 2023, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the Armed Forces of Ukraine intend to keep the city, “but not at any cost.”
