[Reporter Li Xinfang/Taipei Report]The Taiwan Citizens Front invited scholars and experts to hold the annual forum on “Ukrainian Apocalypse and Taiwan National Defense” yesterday. Chen Guoming, director of Global Defense Magazine, said that if Russia wins Ukraine, it will increase China’s determination to invade Taiwan by force, but If Taiwan can withstand the first blow, “we will win!” The will of the Ukrainian people to resist the enemy is worth learning from Taiwan. Many scholars and experts are concerned about the lack of national defense awareness in Taiwan, and urgently call for the government to strengthen it.

Panelists at the forum included Chen Guoming, Song Chengen, convener of the Sovereignty and Diplomacy and Defense Group of the Economic Democracy United Think Tank, Lin Bingyu, planning director of the Wang Li Second World War Research Institute, and Lai Yizhong, an advisory member of the Taiwan think tank.
Lai Yizhong believes that in the event of a war in the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan should preserve its strength, wait for changes, and fully defend itself. He pointed out that in the modern new type of warfare, citizens can play different important roles. Regarding Taiwan’s national defense, the people expect the role they can play, and even to what extent they can prepare to be armed. The government must respond positively. For example, it can count how many types of skills and licenses the people have. If the government does nothing, the people will be patriotic. Not getting a response, turning to disappointment with the government.
Lin Bingyu pointed out that although Taiwan has a good navy and air force and a large number of anti-armor armaments, its overall reserve mobilization capability is still insufficient. At this stage, the Ministry of National Defense mainly mobilizes reserve soldiers who have service qualifications. Without the participation of channels, Taiwan’s national defense still has a lot of room for improvement.
Song Chengen said that the Ministry of National Defense currently confuses reserve mobilization with national defense, which is the responsibility of local governments, but is not in operation.
There are natural dangers in the Taiwan Strait, and the situation in Ukraine is different.
Chen Guoming pointed out that Russia has not been able to attack Ukraine for a long time, and Russia has not been fully prepared. At present, the entire Ukrainian country is a soldier, and its will to resist the enemy is worth learning from Taiwan; however, the situation in Taiwan is different from that in Ukraine, and we have natural dangers in the Taiwan Strait.
Chen Guoming also said that he does not want Russia to win, because if Russia wins Ukraine, it will increase China’s determination to invade Taiwan by force. If China attacks Taiwan, it may use a large number of missiles and other offensives to consume Taiwan’s naval and air force. Hold on to the first hit, “We win!”
