Politicians are calling for a raid on Scholz

Union judicial experts are calling for new searches on Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64, SPD) in the affair!

The reason is the Warburg affair about party donations to the SPD and gave away millions in taxes during his time as Hamburg mayor.

The investigating Cologne prosecutors have noted in the files that there are indications of “specific deletions” of calendar entries in the Warburg complex.

So far, only Scholz’s official e-mail inbox has been searched. Union faction Vice Andrea Lindholz (51, CSU): “Scholz must now disclose his private email traffic to the investigators.”

It is about years from 2014, in which the state of Hamburg refrained from collecting 47 million euros in taxes from the Warburg Bank. It should be determined in WhatsApp messages, SMS, private mails.

▶︎ Interior expert Stefan Heck (39, CDU): “Calendar deletions are acts of concealment that must necessarily lead to further investigations.” If necessary, the public prosecutor’s office has “the necessary instruments”.

Hamburg investigative committee spokesman Götz Wiese (56, CDU) also says: “All Scholz’s emails and chats must be checked.”

There Cum-Ex-Scandal

From 2001 to 2016, bankers, lawyers and investors cheated the German state out of billions with tax tricks and stock deals. With these so-called cum-ex deals, they had taxes reimbursed twice that were only paid once.

The Hamburg Warburg Bank was also involved. The role played by the mayor at the time, Olaf Scholz, is being examined.

Hamburg prosecutors: No reason for investigations

The Hamburg Attorney General has meanwhile rejected a complaint against the non-initiation of investigations against Scholz and his mayoral successor Peter Tschentscher (56, SPD).

This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the authorities after the “Daily Mirror” had reported this.

Reason: In February, the lawyer Gerhard Strate (72) filed a criminal complaint against Scholz and Tschentscher on suspicion of aiding and abetting tax evasion.

There are no “sufficient actual indications to suspect that a suspected tax evasion by the Warburg Bank was knowingly or intentionally promoted by those responsible for the Hamburg tax authorities,” according to the complaint rejection by the Attorney General’s Office of August 10, 2022.

That’s exactly how the Hamburg public prosecutor’s office had seen it before. The lawyer’s report had not resulted in any relevant new findings, it was said.

It is questionable whether this will continue to apply after the recent developments in the cum-ex scandal …
