Sekkouri vows to bring justice to security guards

In Morocco, the working conditions of security guards and cleaners are such that they continue to spark debate. Arduousness, overworking hours, non-declaration to social protection schemes, many private security companies do not respect the labor code.

The question was placed on the agenda in the House of Representatives during the plenary session devoted to oral questions. Asked regarding the abuses suffered by this category of workers, the Minister for Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, acknowledged that this is a serious problem. Evidenced by the many irregularities noted by the labor inspection services, including 18,000 were reported the previous year, according to the minister, who said that 328 companies were inspected.

As this question has been around for a long time, the deputies considered that it is time to find a definitive solution to put an end to the violations of the labor code. This is what the minister agrees, who has indicated that the current labor code no longer follows the evolution experienced by the profession of security guard over recent years. This is why he assured that the reform, whose announcement is scheduled for July 2023, should provide solutions by revising the status of this category of workers so as to improve their working conditions. “We discussed this subject with the unions during the social dialogue”, indicated the minister, adding that the changes to the legal framework will be examined in consultation with the representatives of the profession.
