Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon hosted a luncheon on October 8, 2026 Asian Games, celebrating Seoul City Hall athletes who achieved a historic medal haul across seven sports disciplines at the recent games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Seventeen athletes from Seoul City Hall competed in fencing, handball, climbing, and four other sports from September 19 to October 4, capturing a total of 12 medals comprising 3 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze medals. During the gathering, Mayor Oh and the athletes watched an Asian Games commemorative video together before the mayor presented participants with Haechi goods. In return, the athletes presented Oh with an Asian Games commemorative T-shirt bearing their direct signatures.
Mayor Oh Welcomes Seoul City Hall Athletes
The luncheon welcomed several notable Seoul City Hall athletes, including fencing competitors Jeon Ha-young, Park Ji-hee, and Shim So-eun; sports climbing athletes Seo Chae-hyun, Jung Ji-min, and Lee Do-hyun; women’s football players Kim Min-ji and 강태경; and track athlete Shin Min-gyu. Kang Tae-seon, the president of the Seoul Sports Council, also attended the event.

Future Support for City Athletes
Highlighting the administration’s commitments moving forward, Mayor Oh emphasized the municipality’s responsibility to foster athletic talent. He noted, 재능을 가지고 노력하는 사람이 여건의 한계에 가로막히지 않고 더 큰 무대로 나아갈 수 있도록 든든한 토대를 만드는 것이 서울시의 역할
Oh further pledged that the city will ensure athletes can train in a stable environment and fully display their skills on the global stage, stating that the administration will spare no necessary support.
