SIE urgently adjusts the new PlayStation Plus service upgrade fee calculation base, so there is no need to make up the difference in existing membership discounts

Previous GNNs havereport, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) officially launched the new PlayStation Plus service in Taiwan, Hong Kong and other Asian regions on May 24, providing three levels of basic, upgraded and advanced. However, players who already hold PS Plus membership, if they want to upgrade the service level, in addition to paying the expected price difference of the tier, they even need to make up the difference caused by the discount when they purchased the PS Plus membership before.

After the relevant news was disclosed and caused an uproar, SIE today (5/26) quickly adjusted the calculation basis of the upgrade fee, excluding the part that was criticized by players before “need to make up for the price difference caused by the discount when purchasing PS Plus”, only You need to pay the price difference of each level.

Taking the editor’s personal example as an example, the original PS Plus membership has 542 days left, which are from: Last purchase: 1-year PS Plus membership at a discounted price of 792 yuan (365 days remaining) Previous purchase: 1188 yuan for automatic renewal of 1-year PS Plus membership (542-365+1=178 days remaining) The original editor thought that upgrading to advanced only needs to pay 1100＋1100×(178÷365)＝1636 yuan, but in fact it is 2032 yuan, mainly because the latest PS Plus 1-year membership was purchased at a 64% discount of 792 yuan, so the price difference must be made up 396 yuan.

Just edited and verified again, and obtained different results:

• The current upgrade fee has been changed to only calculate the price difference multiplied by the remaining days to convert the annual fee ratio. In the editor’s example, it is 1100×(541+1)÷365=1633.42

It can be confirmed that the calculation formula of the upgrade fee for the new PS Plus service has been changed to:

Price difference × (remaining days + 1) ÷ 365

Price differences due to discounts on previous PS Plus memberships are no longer calculated.

However, the new PS Plus currently only provides a one-time upgrade plan, and players must upgrade the remaining membership days at one time. For players who have hoarded a lot of PS Plus memberships, the burden remains heavy. It is understood that the official will handle this situation through individual customer service channels.
