Slaughter without stunning: DéFI amends its proposal for a ban in Brussels

“We have to find a consensus and I hope that all the groups, all the MEPs, in their soul and conscience, can vote on all the amendments that will be drafted”, he declared on the community channel. An exception would thus be provided for cattle.

“In other regions, there are also exceptions,” observed the deputy. “The Flemish and Walloon regions (where slaughter without stunning is prohibited) have taken the time to implement their legislation. The slaughterhouses of Anderlecht are not ready to prevent slaughter with or without stunning. (. ..) The implementation must also be discussed”, he added. Mr. De Bock also proposes consultation with the cults on reversible slaughter.

The Environment Committee of the Brussels Parliament ended its series of hearings organized on Wednesday in the context of the filing of several proposals for orders relating to slaughter without stunning.

Its members will decide next Wednesday what follow-up they will give to their debates and what fate they will reserve in the short term for the examination, in particular, of the proposal for an ordinance DéFI-Groen-Open Vld aiming to impose stunning prior to slaughter and to which other members of the majority (PS and Ecolo) did not subscribe, as it stands.
