Solidarity contracts until the end of 2024 in Mirafiori for the thousand Maserati employees

Solidarity contracts until the end of the year on the Mirafiori Maserati line. The communication to the unions arrived in the morning: a total of 968 workers employed in the Trident assembly area are involved. The slowdown in the launch plan for the new Maserati models has slowed down the pace of work and has pushed towards an expansion of social safety nets. The measure involves the entire Mirafiori body shop department where the electric Fiat 500s are also produced and where the over 2 thousand employees are on layoffs until April 20th.

«We appreciate that Tavares considers Mirafiori a pillar of Stellantis in Europe, but if new models do not arrive, we will have to deal with an increase in shock absorbers, a reduction in wages and a situation that will be increasingly complicated for workers in the Turin automotive sector » highlights Luigi Paone, secretary of the Uilm of Turin.

The start of solidarity contracts in Maserati represents an alarm bell for local institutions and for the Government, underline the workers’ representatives. We need clarity on the future of Mirafiori, this is what the demonstration organized jointly by the metalworkers’ unions for next April 12th asks for.

«The use of the solidarity contract constitutes a warning so that the government implements not only the incentives announced several times but also additional resources to support the automotive industry in the difficult transition path» say Rocco Cutrí, secretary of the Fim Cisl of Turin and Igor Albera, secretary responsible for the auto sector. Looking at Stellantis, «it is more than ever necessary to overcome declarations and move on to facts through the industrialization of products starting from Mirafiori and maintaining the production mission of the plant».

Last year around 85 thousand cars were produced in Mirafiori, including Fiat 500s and Maseratis, down 9.3% compared to 2022, while according to forecasts made by Fim Cisl this year the Turin plant could remain at around 50 thousand units, in projection, in light of the sharp slowdown in the first quarter of this year.
