News on the official page of a newspaper, by journalist Mustafa Bakri, provoked the son of former President Alaa Mubarak, and he decided to respond.. Then a hypothetical war of tweets erupted between the two for days.
These were not the first debates that Alaa Mubarak entered on the short tweeting site “Twitter”, albeit the most intense because of the reception and response, the son of the former president, who created his official account on Twitter 5 years ago, decided to engage with the controversial events this year more than Once, which prompted us to analyze the data of his official account on Twitter during that period.
Alaa Mubarak created his Twitter account on the 26th of November 2017, and since that time he has tweeted more than 18,000 tweets, an average of 10.65 tweets every day.
He has more than 1.6 million followers, while he follows 170 people. Despite that, Alaa Mubarak used to respond and interact with followers, even if they were not public figures.
Which made nearly 90% of his tweets replies, and about 10% direct tweets, which he raised, in various fields.
For example, his last tweets included a tweet about the video “Singer Al-Naqqash”, which impressed everyone, commenting, “God willing, one of the most beautiful voices, Malush is a solution, more beautiful than many voices that are now on the scene… Frankly, Maysabsh, I wish you all the best.” .
And other tweets about travel and nature, but this was not all. Since the end of last year until now, Alaa Mubarak has tweeted 58 direct tweets, which varied between greetings on official occasions, condolences, and commenting on events of various kinds.
17% of the comments came in personal cases – specifically in the developments of cases of looted money in Switzerland – where the family of the former president announced in an official statement “the successful conclusion of all international judicial proceedings concerning their money specifically in Switzerland”, in mid-May, and it was at that time that It witnessed the largest number of tweets by Alaa Mubarak, since the beginning of the year until now.
After he launched several tweets about the Swiss prosecutor’s acquittal of all charges against them.
9% of the tweets were about sporting issues, such as the national team’s defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
He also commented on Amr Adib’s attack on Sayed Abdel Hafeez, director of football at Al-Ahly Club, in one of his tweets, saying: “Here I will be silent for a while… He talks to us about principles, sports ethics and role models and demands punishment and a fine for Captain Sayed Abdel Hafeez! Where did they go, when he came out speaking in a disrespectful manner about a stature like the Grand Imam, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, who is at the top of the largest religious institution!
This was not the first time that Alaa Mubarak attacked the media Amr Adib this year. In a previous incident, Alaa Mubarak published a picture of “Adeeb”, commenting: “Whoever lives with two faces will die without a face… We seek refuge in God from the evil of two-faced people.”
Technical issues were among Alaa Mubarak’s interests as well, as he commented on the crisis of the movie “Friends and Dearest”, saying: “After watching the movie, what is the purpose of this quotation, especially since the content of the film, even if it is exposed to models that exist in our societies, but it does not fit with our values and principles? Which is governed by customs and traditions and forbidden by religions, freedom of expression and creativity must be subject to moral and social controls, otherwise it will become chaos.”
And it is the issue that made him clash with the media, Ibrahim Issa, saying: “Ibrahim Issa stood out of respect for the movie “Friends and Dearest,” and he was free; It is not from the Sunnah! I fear that the next prayer will surprise us that the Tahajjud prayer is also not Sunnah. Please, Professor, is a sufficient provocation.”
And this was not the only time that Alaa Mubarak clashed with Ibrahim Issa, as he always contradicts him in his statements on controversial religious issues.
On the other hand, national issues and issues occupied part of Alaa Mubarak’s tweets; He spoke about the issue of “scarring the beaches of the North Coast”, exploiting ancient hotels, attacking Al Jazeera channel, and praising the men of the armed forces, in a number of tweets.
Alaa Mubarak did not interact only with public figures in the comments. Most of his tweets came as responses to ordinary personalities. From May 3, 2022, until August 17, the most who referred to Alaa Mubarak in his responses were non-famous personalities, as shown in the following table.
While the number of public figures was limited, namely the singer Latifa Al-Tunisi, and the journalist Mustafa Bakri, who was embodied in the recent tweets war.
Despite the fact that Alaa Mubarak sparked controversy, and entered into many altercations and wars of words on the site of short tweets, the map of the most words he used came individually flowery and non-controversial, such as “Your Honor, Professor, thank you .. and greetings.”
But what is actually interesting is that despite Alaa Mubarak’s prolific activity on Twitter, which averages 10 tweets per day, he did not use the hashtag, the primary symbol of Twitter, in any tweet.
