The 11th title of his career, the first after eight months, was celebrated by Stefanos Tsitsipas in… his favorite Monte Carlo. The Greek tennis player prevailed in the final of the Norwegian Kasper Ruud with 6-1, 6-4 and won the Masters tournament of the Principality for the third time in the last four years. At the same time, he secured valuable points, which will bring him back to No. 7 in the world ranking, which will be announced tomorrow.
Ruud took the opening game of the final, but the rest belonged entirely to Tsitsipas. He equalized with a love game, then “broke” his opponent’s serve and in the next game “erased” three break points, to reach 3-1. The Norwegian showed nervousness, made effortless mistakes in very critical points and so, even though all the games were “closed”, the Greek tennis player won them all and celebrated the conquest of the first set with 6-1.
The game afterwards was clearly more balanced and Tsitsipas even had to “erase” break points in the first and third games of the second set. “Steph” had his own chance (in doubles, in fact), but Ruud held on and equalized at 3-3, to follow a “marathon” game, lasting almost 13 minutes, where the Greek champion (although he started with 40 -0) had to save three more break points (8/8 in total in the match!). Tsitsipas led 5-4 and when he was given the opportunity, he did not let it go unexploited. With the Norwegian playing under pressure and making crucial mistakes, “Stef” managed the only break of the second set, with which he made it 6-4 and won the trophy.
